Our Philosophy

Welcome to the Good Seed online catalog! We're located in the north central part of Washington State, in the Okanogan Highlands. Our garden is two miles from the Canadian border. We specialize in heirloom, open-pollinated, homestead, and cold hardy seeds.

HOMESTEAD SEEDS

Good Seed's mission is to supply the seeds that a homestead needs - basic perennial foods, herbs and flowers that, once established, can provide food, spices, medicine, and beauty to a home place. Perennials are the backbone for a self-sustaining life style. With very little work, these plants produce year after year, and need only be bought once.

Another hard worker of the homestead garden is the self seeding annual, plants that reproduce themselves. Your job is to keep them where you want them! An additional benefit of the homestead garden is you can propagate plants through saving seed or other methods.

HEIRLOOM SEEDS

Old is not necessarily better, but there are many older varieties that have stood the test of time. They have tradition and history; they're part of our heritage. Learn the history of a seed variety and you can learn about the people that have grown that seed over the centuries. These seeds are also our savings account of genetic stock.

COLD HARDY SEEDS

Good Seed is a bioregional seed company. This is what most seed companies used to be before a major part of seed sales became centralized in very large national seed companies. In recent years, localized seed companies have again appeared. We specialize in seeds that do well in our area, our seeds seeds do well in places with cold winters and shorter growing seasons.

OPEN POLLINATION

All of our seeds are open-pollinated. This means that the seeds produced by these plants will produce similar off-springs. Many commercial seeds are hybridized and the plants cannot be accurately reproduced from their own seed. Your seeds are your heritage!
